July 2014 News: Cheryl Hinnen Commissioned

Cheryl Hinnen Commissioned Provisional Deacon at Annual Conference

On Monday, June 2 at the 2014 Annual Conference, Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett commissioned Cheryl Hinnen to perform the duties and ministry of deacon. The commissioning took place during the Service of Ordination, Commissioning and Licensing. Rev. Cheryl Hinnen is a member of the North Alabama Conference Ethnic Ministries Operational Team and Associate Pastor of East Lake UMC. Cheryl Hinnen started her ministry career as an intern at East Lake United Methodist Church in the summer of 2006, and then moved to Canterbury United Methodist that fall to serve as the Junior High Youth Director. In 2008, she returned to East Lake and has remained in ministry there.

At East Lake UMC, she has served as the Director of Children and Families; and as the Program Coordinator for P.E.E.R., Inc., the non-profit and North Alabama Conference Advance Special connected to the church, working with the East Lake Farmers Market and community gardens. She is now the Associate Pastor and enjoys creating in her daily ministry. Her duties include work with children and youth, the arts and worship team, and community outreach to the families in the surrounding area.

Cheryl is married to Rev. Jack Hinnen, Chaplain and Director of Religious Life at Birmingham Southern College. Together, they serve God through the ministries in North Alabama.
