POSITION OVERVIEW In the next 5 years, Decatur First United Methodist Church will plant the seeds of God’s Word and cultivate the Good News of Jesus Christ in the lives of 3,000 children, teenagers, and adults in the Decatur area. The Director of Youth Ministries will be one of the key leaders of this effort. The Director will be the lead staff member for the youth ministry. In addition to engaging youth in small group discipleship, the director will be responsible for day-to-day building relationships, nurturing and spiritual guidance for youth inside and outside our congregation. This will be a part time position. The position is expected to average 20 – 30 hours per week, depending on the events. For more details about Decatur FUMC, please visit http://decaturfumc.org/ RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY RESULT AREAS: • Provide effective communications to inform and inspire youth about pathways to discipleship through servant leadership. • Connect youth with God, fellow Christian peers, and their church family in order to help youth develop a deeper relationship with God and create disciples for Jesus Christ. Leadership in this area involves leading youth studies, small groups, relationship building, recreation activities, and local, national and international mission opportunities. • Provide oversight of youth budget and facilitate fundraising activities when needed to support such efforts. • Volunteer recruitment and coordination. EXISTING YOUTH ACTIVITIES Some of the existing activities the Director of Youth Ministries will be responsible for include: • Weekly Junior and Senior High bible studies • Weekly Junior and Senior High Sunday School classes • Sunday night Youth activities • Summer Junior and Senior High Mission Trips • Youth retreats, outings, and trips REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Committed Christian with a passion for growing believers of all ages. • Proven experience in building relationships grounded in Christ’s love. • Experience building and working with a team. • Ability to be a self-starter creating a plan and executing a plan. • Experience in a position analyzing information to solve problems. • Experience in a position interpreting and communicating written and oral information. • Experience in a variety of computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Outlook. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Four year college degree. • Experience leading youth using creative ideas to strengthen their faith. • Ability to expand the touch of the church using communications and technology. In addition, applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
