New deadline for filing 2016 W2s and W3s is January 31, 2017

1/19/2017

The US Treasury has changed the filing due date for all employer’s 2016 W2s and W3 to January 31, 2017

The date for providing your employees with their 2016 W2 remains the same, January 31, as has been the rule for a number of years. What has changed is the date for filing the employer's copy of W2s and W3s for the 2016 tax year. Whether you file electronically or by mail, the new deadline for filing 2016 W2s and W3s is January 31, 2017.

The State of Alabama changed the filing date last year for 2015 W2s to January 31, 2016, and State filing remains the same for 2016 filing. You must file your employer copies of 2016 W2s and the Alabama A-3 Annual Reconciliation with the State of Alabama by January 31, 2017 as well.

Please email the Conference Treasurer’s Office at jfrazier@umcna.org if you have questions.

The notice below was received by the Conference from the Social Security Administration alerting all employers to the filing date change.

Alert

The new tax filing deadline for both paper and electronic W-2s is now January 31st. If this date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the deadline will be the next business day.

Don’t wait until the last minute. Start filing early since Business Services Online (BSO) experiences delays when there is a high volume, especially at the end of the month.
