Conference celebrates new communities of faith

6/29/2017

New Church Development has been a long-time priority of the North Alabama Conference.

Executive Director of New Church Development Dr. Richard Hunter noted, “The Office of New Church Development has the joy of leading our Conference’s effort to start and grow new communities of faith all around us.”

He further explained that his team defines a new community of faith as “a church starting a new worship service or satellite ministry.” He reported that in 2017 North Alabama Conference congregations have started 36 new faith communities.

During the Annual Conference presentation he shared the following video which shines a spotlight on eight of these new communities of faith.

He also introduced the leaders helping to start new faith communities during 2017.  The video below is a presentation created by the New Church Development Office put to music to introduce this year's church planters.

Rev. Hunter also said, “We strongly believe the renewal and the growth of our United Methodist movement is rooted in starting new faith communities and fresh expressions. The good news of this is that every church can start some form of fresh expression where you take the church into the community.”  He invited local congregations to contact the New Church Development Team for resources, finances, training and encouragement.
