Charlie Carlton will be moving to a new position in our Conference that will focus on personal financial planning of clergy during life-stage transitions.

Beginning August 1, 2017, Charlie will serve as the Director of Clergy Financial Education for the North Alabama Conference. For the last 27 years, Charlie has served as the Executive Director of the North Alabama United Methodist Foundation, often helping pastors prepare for retirement, manage financial issues related to life stages and changing situations, and chart a financial course that allows them to provide for their families, hopes, and dreams in the very best way possible. While working with our pastors on a personal level has been a secondary role for Charlie at the Foundation, it will be the primary focus of his new position. With anticipated higher numbers of clergy retiring in the coming years, more pastors moving to housing allowances, the rising cost of education for children entering college, and many other reasons, this is the right time for Charlie to focus his gifts, time, and attention on resourcing the clergy of our conference in their ongoing personal financial planning. Charlie’s new position at the Conference will be funded by a grant from the Foundation.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors has named Mike O’Kelley as the Acting Executive Director and will soon begin their search for a new Executive Director to lead the Foundation forward in strengthening and expanding its ministry with the churches of the North Alabama Conference. O’Kelley has a strong financial background and will help prepare the Foundation for the next chapter in its wonderful story.

Congratulations Charlie, and thank you for your many years of service at the Foundation.
