Samaritan Counseling Centers of Greater Birmingham (SCC) is pleased to announce a special workshop on suicide prevention on Thursday, September 28, 2017. This one-day training, Soul ShopTM for Leaders, will focus on recognizing suicidal desperation and knowing how to talk with a person contemplating suicide. Experience has shown that skilled intervention at this critical time can save lives.
Soul Shop™ for Leaders is a faith-based training workshop designed specifically to equip clergy, lay leaders, church members, faith-based counselors, and community leaders to recognize and address suicidal desperation as a regular part of their life and work.
While much of the Soul Shop material is directed to leaders within the faith community, it is also highly relevant for licensed professional counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals.
This training may also be of benefit to school administrators, counselors, and teachers, as well as first responders, law enforcement officers, and other members of the community, who have been impacted by suicidal desperation or who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Soul ShopTM has become a national movement with a goal of training 20,000 community leaders by the year 2020. SCC is pleased to bring this dynamic training program to Birmingham.
The Birmingham workshop in September will be held at St Peter’s Anglican Church on Montevallo Road in Mountain Brook.
