Each District is asked to recruit volunteers to record videos, take pictures, get quotes and write up stories describing the activities and events related to the Bazillion Book Drive in your District.
This will allow your District’s story to be told and celebrated during through Conference publications and social media as well as during Annual Conference 2016. If you have questions contact: Danette Clifton— firstname.lastname@example.org or 205-226-7973.
Here are some tips for telling your District’s Bazillion Book Drive Story
- Shoot high quality video (HD preferred). You don’t need a special camera, many smartphones have the needed capabilities.
- Make sure the video picture is clear with good lighting. Beware of dark sanctuaries, church basements and gyms.
- Take multiple segments of video from a variety of angles and zoom ranges and featuring a diversity of subject matter.
- Make sure the sound is clear and without wind or distracting background noises.
- If you are interviewing a person be sure to use an external microphone to focus in on his or her voice.
- Capture footage showing action and movement.
- Capture footage of faces and signs of emotion.
- Capture footage of children’s books!
- Capture footage of children if possible. Make sure you have proper permission from the children’s parent/guardian.
- Include interviews from the District’s Bazillion Book Drive Team, local church volunteers, and representatives of book-receiving agencies.
- Make sure you alert people you are shooting video during public events. For any one-one interviews or video shoots at non-United Methodist locations use a Model Release form.
- If you plan to edit your District’s video only use copyright clear background music.

- Include the who, what, where, when and why in your story.
- Include specifics: what congregation is involved; what agency or ministry is involved; what age range of children are being served.
- Focus the story on how lives are being changed
- Include direct quotes from the District Team, local church volunteers, and the book-receiving agencies.
- If possible, feature any long-term ministry relationships that currently exist or are being formed due to the Bazillion Book Drive.
- Double check the spelling of names.
- Take pictures so each story has visuals.
