Advocacy for Social Justice

The Advocacy for Social Justice team is prayerfully partnering with the Holy Spirit to expand God's kingdom in this world.

During Jesus' earthly ministry, Jesus met the needs of marginalized people and challenged the religious and political structures that marginalized them. We strive to encourage North Alabama United Methodists to follow Jesus' mission and to live out our United Methodist membership vow to "resist evil, injustice and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves."

Currently, the Advocacy for Social Justice Team's emphasis is on racial reconciliation. While the church should be a shining example of the beauty of diversity, it remains one of the most segregated institutions in America. As a sign of hope for doing better, the team is inviting all North Alabama United Methodist Churches to participate in "Worship Together" during February of 2022. We're encouraging every church to invite a cross-cultural preacher to share the morning message one Sunday during February. Additionally, we hope that churches will take time in Sunday School or over lunch to host a conversation about steps they can take toward racial reconciliation.
