Domestic Violence Non-Profit Seeking Volunteers for Temporary Foster Homes for Dogs

8/7/2018

Shelby SafePet, a division of Shelby Humane is seeking volunteers statewide who can offer a temporary home to a dog or cat. Shelby SafePet assists victims of domestic abuse who are actively entering DV shelter programs but are prevented from doing so because they cannot leave their pets behind. Abusers often use the threat of violence against a pet to manipulate a victim survivor into returning home. By providing a temporary shelter for an animal you can give an abuse victim the time they need to secure their own safety and start their new life. Volunteers are asked to open their home for a term of 60 days, no more, and often sometimes less. Shelby SafePet will ensure pets receive medical care, free spay/neutering if necessary and most other costs. All coordination with vet partners will be handled by SafePet. All we ask is that you open your home to a beloved pet who needs a temporary place to stay until they can be re-united with their family. If you or someone you know loves animals, please, consider helping us to help pets and their owners escape domestic violence. (This is a state wide program. No mater where you live, you can help.)
