Traditional Music Director

Alexander City, Alabama – The First United Methodist Church of Alexander City, Alabama, a 1300-member congregation with an average attendance of 125 at its 11:00 a.m. traditional worship service is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a part-time music director for the traditional worship service. His/her primary responsibility will be to work with the pastor to plan all music for the traditional service, including hymn selection, the prelude, the postlude, the offertory, special music, and to ensure the plan is executed on a weekly basis. He or she will rehearse with the Chancel Choir weekly on Wednesday nights, lead the choir on Sunday mornings, direct the congregational singing, and perform other music-related duties as needed, including, but not limited to, directing ensembles and the hand bell choir. The successful candidate will have a vital and personal relationship with Christ, at least a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in music, and three years or more of similar experience. He or she will have a working knowledge of United Methodist worship practices, strong vocal and instrumental skills, good interpersonal skills, a willingness to work with other ministry areas of the church as a team player, and excellent organizational skills related to the planning and execution of ministry programs and events.
