Pastor for Youth and Missions

11/30/2018

The Pastor of Youth and Missions (PYM) will develop, resource and execute a discipleship program for students from 6th grade through 12th grade. The primary purpose will be to help them develop a spiritual relationship with Christ and to understand the role of community in living out their faith journey. Specific attention must be given to molding our students such that they understand the communal nature of faith, the importance of studying scripture, how to be a Christ-like servant in the larger community, what it looks like to develop a rich prayer life and how to treat all people with love and dignity. The PYM will be responsible for all youth small groups, events, activities, mission trips, and camps. The PYM will also be responsible for recruiting, equipping, and deploying volunteer leaders and teachers. Finally, the PYM will be responsible for effectively promoting these events and coordinating with other program directors, i.e., children, worship, adult discipleship. The PYM will spend approximately 5-10 hours a week coordinating and planning with our missions team to plan and promote year-round missional outreach efforts. Critical metrics include 1.) unique monthly emphases that 2.) successfully engage the laity in 3.) local, national and international missions. Priority is placed on ongoing missional relationships rather than "one-off" projects. CHURCH DESCRIPTION: Grace Methodist is a medium-sized, Christ-centered church in Vestavia Hills area of Birmingham, AL. We are an inclusive church that values vibrant worship, small group Bible study and significant missional outreach in our local community, nation, and world. To understand our ministry, you must first know our mission: "Strengthening families by making and growing highly committed disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." All of our ministry decisions flow from this simple statement of why God put our church in this community. Our most recent "strengthening families" initiative was to support local families by creating and launching a full-day Christian preschool for ages three months through 4k--the only one within several miles of the church. As a growing church, we offer traditional and modern worship services totaling an average worship attendance of just over 290. Our children and youth ministries are both experiencing their best years since the founding of the church fifteen years ago. Over the past 8 years, the budget and worship attendance have increased by over 50%. Please respond by email only: wade@gracebhm.org
