The First United Methodist Church, Cullman, AL, seeks such a person as their Director of Children’s Ministry. The Children’s Director oversees a comprehensive ministry to children from newborn through 6th grade and to their families. The Children’s Director develops and implements programs that reach Cullman area families and advance the Kingdom of God. The Director position includes the following priorities: • Communicates effectively with parents and children, using all appropriate means: in person, in writing, and by media. • Serves as an advocate for, role model for, spiritual mentor for, and encourager of children and provides opportunities for their spiritual development. • Plans, leads, and supervises children’s activities in conjunction with children’s ministry team members. • Secures and manages volunteer leaders and workers, ensuring they meet all training requirements. • Coordinates with and energizes volunteers, in service to our children and our community. • Teaches and trains children and adult leaders. • Manages and supervises all aspects of Children’s Ministry, including hiring, supervising, and ensuring the training of childcare workers. Ensures workers and volunteers pass background checks. • Creates yearly Children’s Ministry calendar and maintains the Children’s Ministry Web site. • Develops, complies with, and implements the Children’s Ministry budget. • Selects and institutes the Children’s Ministry Curriculum and coordinates Children’s Worship, including Sunday morning “Children’s Church” and “Children’s Moments” during worship services; Wednesday evenings; and special events including Vacation Bible School. A degree or experience in Christian education is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates that have a childhood development or pediatric services background will also be considered favorably. A strong work ethic and a history of successful collaborative teamwork and dependability are major factors in the selection process for this key position.
