Director of Student Ministries I. General Responsibilities: To give oversight and supervision of the youth ministries (6th through 12th grades) of the church II. Qualifications: Minimum four-year college degree in youth ministries or related field; preferred three year’s experience working with youth in a church setting. Must have a moral value system compatible with the United Methodist Church. III. Supervision: Accountable to the senior pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee IV. Specific Duties: A. Recruit and equip volunteer leaders and helpers for all youth programs B. Plan and operate weekly programs for all youth, including FUEL, Sunday School, Prayer Breakfast and AXIS Bible Study C. Oversee Sunday School and encourage discipleship for all students D. Plan and coordinate with senior pastor for Confirmation Class E. Visit and spend time with students wherever possible, including homes, schools, and after-school activities F. Plan major youth activities and retreats, including summer camp, ski retreat and other retreats, as well as fundraisers and other smaller-scale events G. Assist in other church-related programs when possible H. Communicate all necessary information concerning youth activities via monthly publications, Steeple Chimes, e-mails, text messages, website, and personal notes I. Assist in worship when possible J. Hold regular parent meetings K. Hold regular counselor meetings to foster and continue growing team of volunteers L. Participate in at least one continuing education event per year (funded amount included in church budget) M. Lead and support the youth praise band N. Participate in monthly district and regional youth workers’ meetings O. Engage with community organizations as appropriate (for example: Family Y, local civic clubs V. Other requirements: A. Attend church staff meetings, worship services, administrative meetings, all work area meetings concerning youth, and other meetings as requested B. Assume all other duties as assigned by the senior pastor C. Prepare the youth budget annually in a timely fashion for the Finance Committee Housing is offered as part of this position.
