9:30 Worship Leader Reports to Director of Music Ministries
General Description
The 9:30 Worship Leader is a part-time position with an expected time investment of 18-20 hours per week, with additional hours during special programming. The 9:30 Worship Leader is responsible for planning and coordinating all music for 9:30 worship.
The purpose of this position is to:
- exalt and magnify the Lord, not themselves
- edify and encourage God’s people to worship Him
- prepare hearts to respond obediently to the proclamation of God’s Word
The goal of this position is to support the vision of McKendree to be a church that glorifies God in all that we do and to support the church’s mission statement of Nurturing Community, Connecting All Through Christ.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):
Music
- Research, select, and teach all music used for 9:30 worship
- Select and prepare all instrumentalists for 9:30 worship
- Audition, select, and train vocalists for 9:30 worship
- Audition and select new instrumentalists for 9:30 worship
- Plan and implement regular rehearsals
- Find and teach new songs
- Communicate to audiovisual volunteers how to present lyrics onscreen as well as road map of songs
- Collaborate with sound person about sound mix for solos, featured vocalists, and instruments
- Enter all music into Planning Center, ensuring access to correct versions, have printouts, and understand specific notes for audio-video vocalist • Responsible for personal preparation and rehearsal
- Work with the Pastor(s) and Director of Music Ministries to plan weekly worship
- Keep current on latest music and trends
Professional Skills Required:
- Keyboard or Guitar proficiency
- Ability to arrange and transpose music
- Vocal excellence
- Teaching excellence
- Organizational excellence
- Computer literacy - proficient in tools such as planning center, multi-tracks, praise charts
- Technical knowledge - audio, video, and lighting
Personal Development and Growth:
- Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and your neighbor as yourself
- Have a personal daily devotion time
- Be involved in a small group-praise team initially, but encourage to expand.
- Be involved in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world
Minimum Requirements:
- Weekly worship and rehearsals
- Tuesday Worship Planning Meetings
- Excellence in musicianship
