Alabaster First United Methodist Church, a mid-size, intergenerational congregation is currently hiring a part-time (25-30 hours a week) Children’s Ministry Director. The candidate should love the Lord and the children. The selected candidate will serve the church by leading, coordinating, overseeing, and developing the church’s ministry for children from birth to fifth grade. Responsibilities: • Provide direct spiritual and administrative leadership for the overall children’s program including children’s moments, children’s church, and Sunday School; activities for children on Wednesday evenings; and Vacation Bible School. • Collaborate with the leadership of the preschool and the youth program of AFUMC to support a unified Christ-centered focus across our church campus and in our community. • Enlist, organize, and train new and existing Children’s Ministry volunteers. • Be passionate about helping to disciple children in their relationship with Jesus Christ. • Hire, train, supervise, and schedule nursery workers for church events, including Sunday services. • Select and implement children’s curriculum for Sunday School and other Children’s Ministry events. • Provide resources and support to families for spiritual leadership and parenting. • Plan and implement special family events (such as Trunk or Treat and Easter Egg Hunt) focusing on a church-wide fellowship and providing an opportunity for community outreach. • Develop and maintain Children’s Ministry Budget •Attend weekly staff meetings and periodic church council meetings. • Manage the supplies needed for the Children’s Ministry and ensure materials are stocked and available each week. • Comply with Safe Sanctuary and other policies and procedures to ensure child safety. Qualifications: • Be biblically knowledgeable and have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. • A degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education is preferred. • Experience working with children in an educational or ministry setting. • Be a self-starter and proactive in fulfilling responsibilities in the Children’s Ministry program. • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are a must. • Be able to engage, nurture, and build relationships with children and their families. • Able to work well with the pastors, laity members, and other staff. • Possess good computer skills, at a minimum proficient with Microsoft office applications.
