Minister of Youth and Justice

March 14, 2022

First Church is a diverse worshipping congregation with people from various religious backgrounds, races, socio-economic, genders, etc. It includes people from the LGBTQ+ community who have been harmed by church, others who have been disenfranchised with organized religion, and people who have been meaningfully a part of church their entire lives. Our congregation ranges from young children to older adults and everyone in between. Therefore, it is essential that any staff person have an appreciation for the diversity of the congregation and an inclusive theology that should be reflected not only in their personal beliefs but in the way they speak and lead ministry. Finally, the First Church staff works both as highly motivated individuals and as a collaborative team. Anyone seeking employment must be a strong “team player,” able to work well with others, meet deadlines, and be independently motivated.

The Minister to Youth and Justice Helps First Church live out its mission to be an OPEN place for ALL. They seek to build relationships with students and families and the whole church through compassionate, engaging, fun, and theologically grounding experiences. Through sharing the inclusive and free love of God as expressed in the personhood of Jesus Christ, the Minister to Youth and Justice helps our church live into our priorities throughout our wider community and partnerships. They are an equipper, a teacher, and an advocate. They must have a deep love of God, a love for developing young people, and a call to help them see they belong and are loved as they are. They also passionately strive to live into greater justice and equality in our world with humility and bring others along with grace into this work.

This position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year. The expectation is that the Minister to Youth and Justice will work on Sundays with a day off during the week.
