Crumly Chapel UMC in Birmingham seeks a part-time secretary. This person provides the first impression for the church through phone and in-person contact to visitors. The candidate will be responsible for financial and accounting tasks including maintaining the budget, reconciling accounts, posting records, paying bills and executing payroll. Excellent written and verbal skills are a must, as the secretary will handle all incoming and outgoing correspondence and create weekly bulletins and monthly newsletter. The secretary also manages the church calendar and arranges for use of the facility for events such as weddings, funerals and special events. The secretary also maintains church records such as membership statistics, changes, and contact information; inventory of supplies and literature. The person filling this position will coordinate maintenance of office equipment. The secretary will work closely with the Senior Pastor and may be assigned additional duties as they arise. With the exposure to financial information as well as assiting the pastor, confidentiality is necessary. Hours will be set in consultation with the pastor, and salary based on experience. Required skills include proficiency in Microsofy programs (Word, Excel, Publisher), knowledge of accounting procedures and best practices, superb customer service skills, excellent grammar and writing skills. The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work without supervision, be highly motivated and able to multi-task, maintain a high level of confidentiality, and a non-member of Crumly Chapel UMC.
