Do No More Harm: A United Methodist Resource for Responding to Sexual Misconduct
COSROW
The North Alabama Conference Commission on the Status and Role of Women (COSROW) advocates for the full participation of women in the total life of The United Methodist Church. We’re helping the church recognize every person – clergy and lay, women and men, adults and children – as full and equal parts of God’s human family. We believe that a fully engaged and empowered membership is vital to The United Methodist Church’s mission "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."
Since 1972, the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women has been charged with monitoring, research, education and advocacy to eradicate sexism in The United Methodist Church. Such an enormous job requires the work not just of the governing board, but also the help of volunteers in every annual conference.
The UMC Book of Discipline requires each of the church's annual conferences and central conferences to have a Committee on the Status and Role of Women, commonly known as COSROW, "or other structure to provide for these functions." Conferences also are required to fund the group's work. Read more about Annual Conference COSROW's functions of Education, Advocacy, Monitoring and Cooperation.
UM Sexual Ethics is a ministry of the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women. The United Methodist Church is committed to preventing misconduct and addressing it when it occurs. We strive to achieve a response that encourages and ensures accountability and healing to all parties. The Confidential Toll-Free Number is 1-800-523-8390.
