North Alabama Conference retired local pastor William Lindsey McDonald died June 20, 2009.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, in McDowell Hall of First United Methodist Church, Florence, with the funeral in the sanctuary at 1 p.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Florence City Cemetery.
Rev. McDonald severed several rural churches in North Alabama including Harrison Chapel UMC. He retired in 1992.
“We give thanks for the life of Bill McDonald. Bill served as a local pastor; as an active member and teacher in his home church, Florence First UMC; and he served his country for more than 38 years in the Army Reserves,” Bishop Will Willimon says. “Bill also had an extensive love of history and historical research. He used this love to serve his community, his local church and our North Alabama Conference. We are grateful for his contributions.”
