North Alabama Conference retired elder Rev. Ray Goodwin died on June 7, 2010, in Dallas, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Taylor Memorial UMC in Birmingham later this summer.
During his ministry Rev. Goodwin served as both a pastor to churches in the US and as a missionary. He was ordained an elder in 1954. He served the Warrenton Diamond Circuit; Mt. Tabor Circuit; Lester's Chapel; Lincoln; Sylacauga Mignon; and Falkville congregations in the North Alabama Conference. He also served in North Carolina and North Texas. He was a missionary to Panama for a number of years during the 1960s. He retired in 1992.
Bishop Will Willimon says, “We give thanks for the life and ministry of Rev. Ray Goodwin. We are grateful for his leadership to congregations in North Alabama and his service as a missionary of our Church. He was the brother of two other dear elders of our Conference – Bert and Jimmy Goodwin. We have been blessed by the unique ministries of all the Goodwins. We remember Bert, Jimmy and their sister Sue Meeks along with other family members and friends in our prayers during this time.”
