Rev. Joe Maples


Retired pastor Rev. Joe Maples passed away Thursday night, April 26, 2012.

Arrangements are as follows:

  • Visitation will be Saturday, April 28, 2012,  5-8 p.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel.
  • Memorial Service will be on Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at Bluff Park UMC.
  • Burial will be at Asbury UMC cemetery in Albertville. 

Rev. Maples was ordained a deacon in 1971 and became an Associate Member of the North Alabama Conference in 1977.  During his ministry he served Bethlehem/N Athens; West Woodlawn Associate; Crossroads; Nectar-Selfville Associate; Asbury (AL); St. Andrews; Wilsonville/Old Chapel; Falkville; Union Hill ; Union Hall; and Union Grove UMCs He retired in 1988 but served churches as a retired supply pastor. He was currently serving as pastor of Walnut Grove UMC in Midfield.

Bishop Will Willimon says, "We give thanks for the life and ministry of Joe Maples. Joe came from a family of ministers and he served churches in North Alabama faithfully for many years. In fact, he was was 89 years old and still serving as a retired supply! Joe was quite a character and known by many people. We are grateful for his faith and service. We remember his wife Dot and their family and friends in our prayers."
