Rev. Jimmy Ray Nixon


Retired elder Rev. Jimmy Ray Nixon died on May 25, 2012, at the Peachtree Christian Hospice Center in Duluth, Georgia.

Arrangements are as follows:

  • Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 2012, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.
  • The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. 
  • Interment will be at the Eureka UMC Cemetery in Lincoln immediately following the funeral service. 

Rev. Nixon was ordained and elder in 2001.  He began serving churches in 1982.  During his ministry he served Santa Fe; Short Creek; First Talladega; Eureka; Ragland; Bemiston; Bemiston / Eureka; Goshen; Fairview (in Centre); and Equality UMCs.  He retired in 2007.

Bishop Will Willimon says, “We give thanks for the life and ministry of Jimmy Ray Nixon.  We are grateful for the leadership and care he gave to churches in our Conference – even serving appointments following his retirement.  His wife Nancy reports that he recently returned from a much-anticipated, long-planned trip to the Holy Land.  We remember Nancy and their family in our prayers during this time.”
