Rev. Alton Parris
Retired elder Rev. Alton Parris died on August 3, 2021. He is the father of retired elder Rev. Mark Parris who is serving as pastor of Leighton UMC (Northwest District).
The arrangements are as follows:
- Visitation with the family will be in the sanctuary at Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church on Monday, August 9 from noon until 2 p.m.
- The Service of Homegoing will follow in the church sanctuary at 2 p.m. The service will also be live streamed through the church’s YouTube channel.
- The burial service will be at Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery (Highway 431 near Wedowee in Randolph County, Alabama) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10 with visitation following the service.
- Honorary pallbearers will be those who were called by God to preach, be missionaries, or be other Christian workers under the pastorship of Alton Parris.
Rev. Parris was ordained an elder in 1950. He pastored churches in North Alabama for 44½ years including Wadley West Side, Hokes Bluff, Haleyville First, Lake Highlands, Gadsden East, Tuscumbia First, and Guntersville First UMCs. He also served as Roanoke District Superintendent. Additionally, he served as the Alabama State Chaplain of the Order of St. Luke the Physician, President of the Brasher Springs Camp Meeting, and on the SIFAT (Servants in Faith and Technology) Board of Directors. He retired in 1991.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the “Faith Promise Missions Fund” (to support local, national, and international missions) at Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church, 104 E. 3rd St., Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
