Sumatanga: Youth Special Camp
Sumatanga has been hosting camps for youth and adults with intellectual and cognitive disabilities for over 30 years. Every summer campers and volunteers come together to celebrate God, friendship and nature. Our camp maintains a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio of counselors to campers. Female and male campers bunk separately but spend waking hours with their family groups. All camps have a registered nurse on site to administer medications and assess the health of our campers. During summer camp, campers have fun participating in several activities including the following: canoeing, swimming, ropes course, hiking, crafts, picnics, music and games! After lunch, a daily nap is thoroughly enjoyed to ensure plenty and lots of energy! Evening activities at camp involve everyone getting together for a big event. They include movies, stories around the campfire, games and dance. After the evening activities, campers and counselors enjoy an evening snack before heading off to bed
