The United Methodist Church in North Alabama is providing an intensive summer internship for people who are discerning a call to Ministry With the Poor, either as clergy or lay. Exploration participants will live in community, pray and read Scripture together. They will participate in two spiritual formation and learning retreats. They will have the opportunity to become certified Christian Community Development participants through a week-long CCDA Immersion. Exploration interns will serve in one of our churches or agencies in direct ministry with the poor.
Exploration begins on May 30 and ends on August 6, 2017. Interns will be expected to be present for the duration of the internship. Each will receive a stipend of $1500 for the summer and a place to live. The Exploration Team will appoint each intern to a rural, urban or suburban ministry context. Each context will provide direct, hands on ministry with under resourced neighbors. An effort will be made to give each intern the assignment they want. However, there is no guarantee interns will get their first choice. They will have a chance to tour each site.
Exploration is open to college students, seminary students, community members, and anyone 18 years and older who is discerning a call of ministry with the poor and willing to commit the time and effort required.
Application Deadline: February 28, 2017
