Kairos Outside of North Alabama

“The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.”

As part of the larger Kairos Prison Ministry International, Kairos Outside offers renewal weekends for women over the age of 20 whose lives have been impacted by incarceration. They may have been in prison or the county jail themselves, or they may have a loved one serving time. This ministry offers Christian volunteers an opportunity to share the love of Christ and to grow more disciples for his service. Volunteers and participants in our weekends do take risks when they open up and share personal, and often painful, experiences in order to encourage and motivate other women.

The United Methodist connectional system in North Alabama has greatly benefited Kairos Prison Ministry in Alabama. For years, our presence at annual conference has provided a means of spreading the word about this ministry. We have been able to make connections with lay and clergy volunteers who are interested in serving on weekend teams and on the Advisory Council. Methodist volunteers are involved in Kairos Prison Ministry at the local, state and international level. Our presence at annual conference also allows us to make contact with others who are working for the same cause, to improve the quality of life for all.
