On March 21, Pastors and laity attended workshops sponsored by North Alabama Conference Ethnic Ministries on volunteerism, worship, outreach, evangelism and financial stewardship in four regions of the Conference - Lakeside UMC in Huntsville, Bethlehem UMC in Lineville, Haven UMC in Anniston and St. James UMC in Irondale.
During the “Black Heritage and the Methodist Church” event Dr. William B. McClain led participants on a thoughtful and challenging journey exploring three ideas: “Why did African Americans become Methodists? Why have African Americans remained in the Methodist Church? And, now so what?”
This year's SBC21 Annual Training Event weekend focused on providing exceptional and effective ministries to children, youth and young adults. North Alabama Conference Convenor of SBC21 Rev. Dedric Cowser said, "This year's annual event was truly a testimony to the new life many of us are witnessing in our black churches."
On Nov. 15, 2014, Gathering at Horseshoe Bend, will be a time of remembering, storytelling, dancing and sharing of an authentic Native American meal. Rev. Anita Phillips, Rev. Glen Chebon Kernell Jr. and Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett will be among those participating in the event. The North Alabama Conference Native American Ministries Team will host this event.
