Children's Worship Games?

Does your worship service include a small amount of time when the children come forward for a “children’s message?” Have you ever felt like that sermon was better than the one delivered by your pastor? Perhaps your place of worship has a separate service designed for the children? Have you ever attended that service and felt the presence of God more than you did in the “adult” worship service?   Some of the most powerful times of worship I have ever experienced were in children’s worship ...

Children’s ministry workers play an important role in the life of local churches. An Update to the Conference Background Check Process

The Connectional Ministries Office of the North Alabama Conference announces improvements in how background checks are processed through its office. The following enhancements allow churches to have greater control of the background check process, as well as providing a more efficient means of clearance for conference events. In the spring of 2013, the Connectional Ministries staff discovered that the background checks previously being run were not consistent with the Conference’s Safe Sanctuary...

Mr. Leon's Boys

In the course of many Safe Sanctuary training sessions the question has been raised, “Given the 2 NON-RELATED adult rule, should husbands and wives serve together?”  My answer to that question is a resounding YES!  Not only are men of God needed as role models for our children, but godly marriages need to be observed by our children.  According to scripture (and Safe Sanctuary policy) married couples are counted as ONE person.  Applying the two adult rule means you must add a third body or ...

Pinson UMC takes Vacation Bible School to new heights

Vacation Bible School at Pinson UMC was all uphill this year! On Saturday and Sunday, June 22 & 23, children learned about the one true God, through mountaintop Bible stories as part of the Tell It on the Mountain curriculum. Not only did the children hear the story of the showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel from I Kings 18, but they were also transported to the mountaintop behind the church and watched in awe as the altar began to smoke and to burst into flames ...

"One"derful Wednesday includes snacks, recreation, Bible stories, crafts, music and ...

Contagious 2013

Contagious is a conference designed for anyone who works with children in a church setting.  If you teach Sunday school, lead a small group, help with VBS, lead a choir, help with mid-week programing volunteer in the nursery, or ANYTHING involving children’s ministry, you will benefit from attending Contagious.  But more importantly…the children you serve will benefit from your attendance because you will become better at what you do. We are so blessed to have a leadership family for Contagious ...

Calera First partners with other churches for Prayer in the Park to kick off new school year

On Sunday August 19, 2012, several hundred Calera families kicked off the new school year with the 2nd annual Prayer in the Park at Ricky M. Cairns Football Field. Prayer in the Park is a community-wide praise and worship service coordinated by several local churches.  The event started as a back-to-school blessing of the backpacks service at Calera First United Methodist Church.  Last year, other Calera churches joined in and opened the event up for the whole community. “It was started because ...

Cedar Hill and Sand Rock UMCs offer "nomadic VBS" to reach different communities in their area

This year Cedar Hill United Methodist Church and Sand Rock United Methodist Church in the Mountain Lakes District decided to do something different for Vacation Bible School.  Not only were the two churches working together to reach their own community, but they also had a vision to reach out to other nearby communities in the hopes of teaching their youth and children that serving Christ means more than just serving those within the Church. During the first planning meeting, they decided to ...

Calera First UMC works toward outreach objective of helping children and families in need

Last month the Shelby County Reporter featured a story on the Feed My Sheep food pantry ministry of Calera First UMC. The food pantry ministry is part of a larger outreach objective the congregation adopted two years ago of “no more needy children” in Calera. The church started working toward this objective by first building relationships with teachers in local schools.  The news article explains, “Teachers were lifted up in prayer and encouraged. They communicated through email about needs ...
