As we engage in doing ministry with the poor here in the North Alabama Annual Conference, we seek to discover, develop, and deploy young adult spiritual leaders who feel called to serve in under resourced communities. The 2017 Exploration Internship was a great start for this journey. A wonderful group of young adult interns worked with Birmingham-area ministries and shared a community house for ten weeks. The shared stories, laughter, challenges and glory sightings have made a difference in ...

Since the mid-1990’s, Church of the Reconciler has been doing vital work with the homeless community in Birmingham. Homeless people are finding housing, addicted people are finding recovery, hungry people have a daily meal and sick people have access to medical treatment. The church's ministry has only been possible because of so many partner churches and individuals throughout the North Alabama Conference. Now, there is a really quick and easy way that you can help raise funds that won’t cost...

This year’s North Alabama Annual Conference mission project was the Bazillion Book Drive — an initiative to collect and distribute books to under-resourced children. The long-term aim of the project is for North Alabama congregations to build relationships and be in continuous ministry with children and families in their community. Two churches in the Southeast District, led by pastor Dr. Randy B. Kelley, recently reached out to their communities in the spirit of the Bazillion Book Drive. ...

The Northwest District opened the doors of a borrowed warehouse in Rogersville on June 25 for their first Bazillion Book Drive Big Event. When the Ministry with the Poor Operational Team was in the visioning process for the Bazillion Book Drive, they hoped that connections would be made and new ministries started or strengthened through new contacts. Little did they know that existing contacts would play just as big a part in its success. "A member of Canterbury has been tutoring with the STAIR program at Avondale United Methodist Church," writes Rachel Estes, Canterbury's Director of Missions and Outreach. "Intrigued with access...
