The North Alabama Conference will hold a virtual Conference-wide Safe Sanctuaries training on Sunday, March 21, 2021, from 2 to 3 p.m. Safe Sanctuaries is the North Alabama Conference's program for developing policies for and conducting training in the protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults in our congregations. Due to a concern that outdated consent forms are being used to obtain background checks for employees and volunteers who work with children, youth and vulnerable adults, updated versions of the consent forms are available from The North Alabama Conference, working in coordination with the Conference's background check provider Employment Screening Services (ESS). Since the mandate in 1996 by the General Conference for all annual conferences and local churches to adopt child protection policies, the United Methodist Church has been a leader in ensuring that the children, youth, and vulnerable adults entrusted to us are cared for in safe and loving environments. The Connectional Ministries Office of the North Alabama Conference announces improvements in how background checks are processed through its office.
