“Leveraging Our Knowledge” Regional Workshops and Conversations focus on how to grow the local church and reach new people for Jesus Christ

Primarily African American and multiracial churches gathered on Saturday, March 21, 2015, for the “Leveraging Our Knowledge” workshops and conversations. Sponsored by North Alabama Conference Ethnic Ministries, the workshops were held in four regions of the Conference at Lakeside UMC in Huntsville, Bethlehem UMC in Lineville, Haven UMC in Anniston and St. James UMC in Irondale.

Pastors and laity attended workshops on volunteerism, worship, outreach, evangelism and financial stewardship. The workshops offered a variety of approaches -- some allowing participants to share tentative plans for putting their knowledge to work and others discussing and sharing with each other ways of doing ministry differently and effectively.

Clergy and Laity in each region served as presenters/facilitators. This allowed them to bring a unique understanding and perspective to the ministry needs of the area churches. Host churches were marvelous in their hospitality.

Participants gave high marks with many suggesting a similar event in the future.
