Glory Sightings This Week (Week of Sunday, May 3, 2015)

North Alabama Conference congregations are now sharing Glory Sightings as part of their Weekly Benchmark Report. This is an opportunity to share a brief statement of how God is at work in the church and community. The practice of regularly sharing Glory Sightings becomes a time of encouragement as we are reminded that God is always at work. It is a reminder to stop, pay attention and give thanks.
We celebrate all that God is doing in North Alabama. Highlights of Glory Sightings shared include the following:
Congregations celebrated their ministries of service to their community.
Hayden (CE District) — West Blount food pantry served over 58 families
Stewart's Chapel (CE District) — 69 families served at the West Blount Food Pantry that is supported by Stewarts Chapel, Hayden UMC and Smokerise UMC. This distribution marks one year for this ministry.
Ashville First (CH District) — Churches and city coming together to provide snacks for teachers at Ashville Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
Danville (NW District) — We made Teachers Appreciation Gifts for our local school
McKendree (NW District) — Afternoon Thrive Service and Gifts for Teachers Appreciation Week
Muscle Shoals First (NW District) — 05/02/15 Bake sale for FUMC missions committee $515.25 05/02/15 Yard sale for Oscar Butler Scholarship Fund of NW District for student pastors $734.60
Comer Memorial (SE District) — Four of our women of grace helped prepare and delivered sandwiches for the UM Children's Home at Children's Harbor this past weekend.
River of Living Water (SW District) — 20 children received weekend snack bags
Marvin Chapel (SW District) — On Wednesday, April 29 during our Kidstuff Ministry, 7 adults and 10 kids picked up trash on the grounds of Marvin Chapel UMC; and also along both sides Of Marvin Chapel Road to about one mile from the church. After Sunday and Wednesday studies on creation and taking care of the world that God gave us, the kids readily cooperated in clean up efforts. They had fun working together.
Congregations welcomed new people.
Mt. Olive (CE District) — 2 new members
Old Zion (CE District) — New couples visiting our church. First time in a long time we are having a nursery for young children. Praise the Lord!
Ohatchee (CH District) — We had ten persons make professions of faith joining the church this Sunday. Our yearly revival is happening amidst these professions of faith . This is a small rural church and it is a great thing to see how God works in the small church to develop the kingdom of God. Our three small groups for tweens/High School/ College age persons is coming to fruition.
Mentone (ML District) — Young man showed up last Sunday. Seeks baptism (Emersion).
Concord (NE District) — New baby in worship for first time
Oleander (NE District) — Two grandchildren were baptized
Christ Church (SC District) — 6 folks joined the Christ Church family this Sunday!
New Heights (SC District) — New Heights experienced an amazing day, as 4 adults were baptized and 14 confirmands were received into the life of the Church.
Haven Chapel (SE District) — A 3 year old join the church. Baptism will be June 1.
Congregations started new programs and groups and recognized milestones in people’s lives.
Ragan Chapel (CH District) — We started Becoming More Missional For Christ Workshop on Monday nights.
Holmes Street (NE District) — We started a recovery group based on Trevor Hudson’s book One Day at a Time: Discovering the Freedom of 12-Step Spirituality with 10 in attendance.
Madison (NE District) — We had a special prayer service for the persecuted church around the world.
Wadley First (SE District) — A new adult Sunday school class started up this morning!
Jennings Chapel (SW District) — Graduation & able to share with them a new Bible from the church!
