Bishop Deborah Wallace-Padgett, Southeast District Superintendent Lewis Archer and Ethnic Ministries Executive Director Richard Stryker joined Rev. Randy Kelley and the Goodsell UMC congregation on Sunday, April 26, 2015, to consecrate its church expansion that improves access for individuals with disabilities. Other guests included Lanett Mayor Oscar Crawley and Fredonia Mayor George Fannings.
The $400,000 improvement includes an elevator, handicap accessible restrooms, a renovated kitchen and fellowship hall. Goodsell UMC undertook this project when a significant number of its elderly members and visitors found it difficult to attend church because they could not climb the steps and get into the sanctuary. The church presented a plaque to Mr. Lionel Johnson in appreciation for his excellent leadership in the team effort to get the work done.
Bishop Wallace-Padgett delivered a powerful sermon on God's faithfulness to his children noting that God’s faithfulness in the past and present is indicative of God’s future faithfulness therefore we can always trust God. She applauded the church members for their faithfulness to the work of the kingdom. The worship service that began in the Sanctuary continued at the new entrance to the building with the Bishop consecrating the additions to the glory of God.
