5% Challenge Celebration: Tuscumbia 1st UMC exceeds 5% worship attendance increase goal

April 18, 2006

by Mike Pope, Senior Pastor

"As long as there is one person in Tuscumbia that is lost we are not big enough."

That statement helps convey the truth of the gospel that Jesus came into this world to save sinners. Without a vision to help Jesus reach the lost, the church is not being the church. We need a passion to put people in touch with a Savior who can change lives. People need the strength of God's grace.

God will grow His church when we get our priorities in order. When we lift high the Cross-, it will draw like a magnet. Our world needs to hear some good news today. We at Tuscumbia First UMC have decided that we will not be ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God!

We have been praying that the Lord would open up the windows of heaven and pour out His Spirit on us. He has heard our prayer. Now, we are praying that He will keep the windows open! In the last three years our average attendance has grown from 300 to this quarter's average of 406 (January through April). We have exceeded the goal of a five percent increase each month. Most months the increase has been over fifteen percent. May His Kingdom come, may His will be done.
