United Methodist Center showcases art

As you walk through the hallways and gathering spaces of the United Methodist Center you may notice more and more conversation pieces in the form of artwork hanging on the walls and sitting on tables and shelves. When you continue to wander through the building you will realize the United Methodist Center now has become a showcase for Alabama and United Methodist artists thanks to the work of the United Methodist Center Art Committee.

During the last year the committee has bought a few art pieces but  has had many more donated or given on loan to display in the United Methodist Center.

Committee member Mary Morgan explains, "We want even more Methodist and Christian art to display. We still have lots of space."

The pieces vary in style and media but they all help tell the Christian story and the history of the United Methodist Church.

Donations are still being accepted to add more artwork to the United Methodist Center. There are several ways to make donations.

  • First, you can donate funds to go toward the purchase of artwork. You can make donations in honor and in memory of someone.
  • Secondly, artists can also offer their work for the consideration. The art committee will make the final decisions as to what pieces are displayed.

For more information or to make a donation you can contact Mary Morgan at marymorgan@charter.net or (205) 978-5868. You may also mail your donations to United Methodist Center Art Committee, 2221 Laurel Brook Lane, Birmingham, AL 35216.
