Northwest District Superintendent Mike Stonbraker has announced that on January 1, 2009, Mary Hardie will become the Northwest District Director of New Generational Christians.
Empowering a New Generation of Christians is one of the four North Alabama Conference priorities. The District Director of New Generational Christians is a new position to assist the Northwest district in continuing to move forward with the conference priorities.
Rev. Stonbraker explained that Mary will be forming a district team to lead, train, and equip churches to reach out and minister to the 20-40 year old age group that seem to have lost interest in the local church environment.
"Our culture is changing so rapidly it's hard to keep up. I am hearing from across our district that these younger groups feel that we (the local church) are not willing to listen to their desires or show any interest in how they like to worship. It's the same Jesus and the same Holy Spirit, they just like it packaged a bit differently and they want to be accepted,” Stonbraker says.
“Mary and her team will first be traveling throughout the district to observe and listen. We want people to know that we are interested and that we do want to hear what they have to say."
The vision of the North Alabama Conference is Every church challenged and equipped to grow more disciples of Jesus Christ by taking risks and changing lives. The four Conference priorities are New Congregations, Natural Church Development, Effective Leadership and Empowering a New Generation of Christians.
