GBGM resumes Summer Intern Program - now taking applications

3/4/2009

The Summer Intern Program is a ten-week leadership development program developed for young adults who are 18-25 years of age.  It is offered by the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries. Orientation, training, all travel, room, board, and a $2,500 total stipend are provided.

Interns must have one year of college or a year of work experience.  Participants are provided with the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with the United Methodist Church and its partner agencies in the United States.  They may work in church-based community ministries, youth camps, outreach programs, community service centers, women’s centers, shelters, orphanages, and other programs that offer assistance to those in need.   Participants are encouraged to examine the relationship between their faith and the important social issues of our time. With young adults working hand-in hand with congregations and partner out-reach ministry, minds and hearts and lives are transformed.  Participants gain a greater understanding of how the church moves beyond its own congregation to serve Christ.

This is an exciting opportunity for young adults who are interested in mission beyond the mission trip experience. They will get an opportunity to train with other young adults who feel the call to serve Christ and the church through mission.  Every young adult who returns from this experience has expressed that it was a life changing experience that they would be very willing to repeat. We are heartened by the fact that many of the Summer Intern participants are interested in eventually considering serving as a commissioned missionary in either our US-2 or Mission Intern program.

We are now taking applications for this program until March 16th, 2009.  Click here to read more and download an application.

Applications and references can initially be sent over the internet to sfrabb@gbgm-umc.org. An original copy of the application and the references must also be sent to the Youth and Young Adult Office.
