Northwest District Hosts Clergy Spouses’ “Salad Supper"

July 17, 2009

On July 14, cabinet spouse, Jane Stonbraker hosted a “Salad Supper” for the Northwest District’s Clergy Spouses at the Brandon Ministry Center in Florence.

Guests were served a variety of salads, desserts and drinks.  They also participated in a group discussion about life as a clergy spouse.

Rev. Sheri Ferguson, Executive Director of United Methodist Pastoral Care and Counseling, led the group on a discussion of the “life in a fish bowl” that clergy and their spouses live.  She also discussed several “stressors” that affect both clergy and their spouses.  There was a general discussion among the participants about the stresses they are facing, both from those who just moved to a new appointment and those who are returning for another year.

In all there were 25 participants.  One of the purposes of the get together was to forge new friendships and renew old ones and to create a sense of family among the clergy spouses.
