At the end of June, a team of twenty people left Blountsville UMC for a week of missions in San Isidro, Costa Rica. This was the first international mission team from Blountsville United Methodist Church.
In San Isidro the team partnered with Santa Rosa Evangelical Methodist Church to build a new sanctuary and reach out to the community. The team visited a nursing home, had craft-time with children at a sister church and played with children at the community soccer field.
At the new sanctuary construction site, the groups worked together to build the floor pad, and pour the concrete. They put in electrical fittings and sanded the walls.
Each day team members went out in the community giving grocery sacks full of rice, beans, oil, sugar and salt.
The team also went in two schools; giving the teachers school supplies, talking with the children, and sharing an evangelism presentation using the Evangecube. This was the first Christian group alwed in one of the schools. The teacher said his doors would always be open to mission teams.
Pastor Bart Bowlin said, “The biggest blessing of the trip was being with the people of the church at Santa Rosa. We worshipped together, worked together, and shared the love of Jesus in their community together. This whole experience went beyond our expectations; and we are already talking about returning next year.”
