Covenant community accepting applications

11/12/2009

The Christian Journey, a covenant community for spiritual formation, is accepting applications for a three-year cycle of retreats beginning in January 2010. A program of the Upper Room administered by the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, the retreats will be a gathering of laity and clergy with a special concern for inclusiveness. All events will be held at Blessed Trinity Retreat Center near Phenix City.

Twelve retreat weekends spread over the three years will offer participants the opportunity to be in small covenant groups for accountability and friendship. Each three-day retreat will include morning prayer, night prayer and daily communion. Outside leaders will address topics including spiritual disciplines, meditation and prayer, discovering gifts and call, the sacra, ents, money issues, peace and justice.

The covenant community is ideal for anyone seeking a deeper relationship with God, a path to spiritual discipline, growth through service, covenant accountability and intentional spiritual growth. The retreat offers a logical "next step" for those highly involved in the local church—pastors, lay leaders, Stephen ministers, Sunday school teachers and other church leaders wishing to establish practices for faithful living in daily life. It is especially appropriate for those who have experienced a three-day weekend event such as the Walk to Emmaus or Young Adult Chrysalis.
