UMCOR nears full replenishment of health kits. Now in need of layette and birthing kits.

3/28/2010

Rev. Ray Crump, Director of the Disaster Warehouse in Decatur reports, “The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)’s Sager-Brown Depot has informed us that we have almost replenished our stock of health kits. Therefore our conference Disaster warehouse is requesting that anyone working on Health Kits, please have them in the warehouse no later than Monday following Easter. That is Monday, April 6.”

He also notes if you have not secured bars of soap or band-aids, please do not purchase them. We have some extra ones at the warehouse and you are welcome to complete your Health Kits after you arrive at the warehouse.”

UMCOR has stated a need for Layette Kits and Birthing Kits. UMCOR will respond to the needs of the people in Haiti for years to come, therefore leaders would like to move from preparing health kits to preparing layette kits and clean birthing kits. These two kits, equipped for mothers and infants, will be in great demand as Haitians begin to rebuild their lives. To find out more about our layette kits and clean birthing kits please

The Disaster Warehouse welcome you to bring your kits and the warehouse will ship them for everyone. You may arrange an appointment to drop them off by calling (256) 341-9961.

Here is what goes in each kit.

Important Kit Assembly Information

  • All items included in kits must be NEW items.
  • All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items-nothing more.

Rev. Crump also notes that for kits delivered to the Decatur warehouse, you should include least $2 cash or a check written to "the NW Dist Disaster Warehouse" that allows $2 for each kit to help with the costs of shipping to Sager Brown and their processing and shipping kits around the world.

Also, since many of this kits will be shipped overseas to Haiti and other countries, it is important they do not contain any extra supplies or personalizations. This can cause delays in an entire shipment of supplies. So please do not include any religious, political or patriotic notes or emblems in any kit.

When your congregation has a collection of kits you may call (256) 341-9961 and arrange for a drop off time and date.
