Babies First benefit luncheon raises $4500

April 07, 2010

On March 27, 2010 approximately 150 people from throughout the North Alabama Conference gathered at Asbury UMC in Madison for the second annual Babies First Benefit luncheon.

The luncheon helped raise $4500 for the Babies First Ministry of the United Methodist Children’s Home.

Patsy Willimon says, “We exceeded our expectations and we raised $4500 for Babies First. That is twice what we raised last year at the first luncheon in Birmingham so we are thrilled.”

Lunch was catered by Covington’s Downtowne Catering Company and the Asbury UMC offered outstanding hospitality. During the luncheon, the children’s choir from Florence First UMC sang. Ashley Anderson, staff from the United Methodist Children’s Home, also gave a presentation informing everyone about the work and ministry of Babies First.

Babies First is a ministry of the United Methodist Children's Home in Birmingham. It is a residential program in Birmingham for young girls and their babies. These young moms make the decision to raise their babies but need help and Christian guidance to insure a healthy, safe start in life.

Over the past several years North Alabama Conference clergy spouses have focused support for this ministry.

At the benefit luncheon people were given an opportunity to support Babies First through a variety of ways:

  • Buying $10 gift cards from Walmart that were on hand to decorate a Gift Card tree. [Babies First also likes to receive gift cards from Target].
  • To make a donation to Babies First in honor of or in memory of a mother, sister or other loved one for Easter and Mother's Day.
  • Purchasing note cards with artwork by the children of UMCH
  • Purchasing the table centerpieces were donated by a Sunday School class from Aldersgate UMC
