North Alabama Conference Advance Special P.E.E.R., Inc. (Promoting Empowerment and Enrichment Resources) is holding its third annual Harvest Feast fundraiser meal on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Ruffner Mountain Nature Center in Birmingham.
The evening will feature an array of local foods, live music, and a short celebration program of P.E.E.R.’s ministry in 2010. Hors d’oeuvres will begin at 5:30 p.m with the dinner served at 6 p.m.
P.E.E.R., Inc. is a community development group designed to draw resources and provide information and education concerning existing resources to the South East Lake neighborhood in Birmingham. P.E.E.R.’s objectives include: 1. Community health initiatives; 2. Partnerships with the area schools, businesses, churches, and civic clubs to increase access to resources; 3. Promotion of economic development and revitalization of homes and businesses.
Current projects include a seasonal farmers market; a Senior Market Box Donation Program which distributed 2,000 boxes of fresh produce to low income seniors during the 2010 farmers market season; a health fair and health screenings; after-school enrichment program for third and fourth graders that focuses on nutrition; cooking classes; free hot meals for seniors; senior exercise classes; and a community garden.
The Harvest Feast is P.E.E.R’s largest fund-raiser each year. The cost is $50 a plate and $400 for a table of eight. All proceeds will go to cover operational and programming costs for the coming year. To make a reservation, please email Cheryl Hinnen at email@example.com.
