North Alabama celebrates increase in connectional giving in 2010


Conference Treasurer Scott Selman reports that the connectional giving of North Alabama United Methodist Churches saw an increase of over 3% in 2010 compared to 2009 giving.

He explains that the Conference received 81.47% of the 2010 Conference budget compared with 78.43% in 2009. Conference budget receipts totaled $8,844,168 in 2010 compared with $8,517,802 in 2009. This is an increase of more than $326,000.

Additionally, in 2010 there was an increase in 100% churches. Selman notes that a total of 477 churches were 100% in 2010, compared with 453 churches in 2009. This is an increase of over 5%.

Bishop Will Willimon said, “What a wonderful outpouring of beneficence by our Methodists. Our best performance in the last several years! This is a tribute to the stewardship leadership of our pastors and the faithfulness of our laity.”

Selman notes other celebrations in the shared giving of North Alabama United Methodists during 2010:

  • Payments for clergy benefits in 2010 currently total over 97% of invoiced amounts.
  • Second-mile giving totaled over $77,000 for Birmingham-Southern College and over $95,000 for new communities of faith.
  • The Conference received over $125,000 for North Alabama Advance Specials and over $440,000 for General Advances.

Selman adds, “I am grateful to our local churches for their generous financial support. Our clergy and laity deserve high accolades. Thank you!”
