Participants invited for Choctaw mission trip March 26-30

The North Alabama Conference Native American task force will again sponsor a trip to work with the Choctaw Methodist Mission near Philadelphia, Mississippi, March 26-30, 2012. There are three United Methodist churches on the reservation of over 9,000. Phyliss Anderson, a member of John Memorial UMC, was elected chief in 2011 and is on the board of the Methodist Mission.

Team members will learn about the Choctaw culture by visiting the Reservation's museum, taking a tour of the reservation and hearing a Choctaw storyteller. Participants will form work groups which will visit sites for home or church repair projects each day, or work with children and youth in a VBS and feeding program each evening. Participantss can stay in a Mission dorm or in reasonably priced hotels nearby at their own expense. The Choctaw Methodist Mission has been providing ministries since 1837. The cost is $150 per person. For more information about the trip contract Rev. Dale Clem,
