AHMEN sponsoring a container to send Christmas Shoe Boxes to children in Honduras

8/1/2012

North Alabama Conference Advance special AHMEN (The Alabama Honduras Medical Education Network) began as a mission team working for one week in underrepresented communities along the north coast of Honduras, the second poorest nation in our hemisphere. Since then the ministry has grown to become a diversified, interfaith-based network of partnerships all over Honduras. Many of the ministry partners and participants are North Alabama Conference congregations. In fact, this year the North Alabama Conference will send nineteen mission teams Honduras.

Also this year, for the tenth year in a row, AHMEN is sponsoring a container to deliver Christmas Shoe Boxes to Honduras. These boxes contain gifts for children and will go to the churches with whom mission teams have ministered this year.

AHMEN invites all North Alabama Conference congregations to participate in this mission effort by compiling the Christmas Shoe Boxes to be shipped to the children of Honduras. Putting together Christmas Shoe Boxes makes a great mission project for church groups of all ages.

AHMEN is furnishing the shoe boxes so that each child receives the same size box. The boxes are shipped from Decatur, Alabama, to Honduras and delivered to remote mountain and jungle villages. The shipping cost of each box is $3.50. The first $1.75 of this amount helps get the shipment of boxes to the missionary in Honduras. The other $1.75 helps the missionary pay the cost of getting the boxes distributed throughout Honduras.

To complete a Christmas Shoe Box, you fill the box with small gifts and complete the manifest form attached to the box indicating whether it is for a boy or girl and their age. In addition you complete a Customs Declaration form so that the box will be allowed through customs. Once the box has been filled, place $3.50 in an envelope and tape it to the shoe box or send one check made payable to AHMEN for the whole group of boxes from your congregation.
