North Alabama United Methodists elected for leadership at the General Church and Jurisdictional level
This year, 2012, is a quadrennial year in the United Methodist Church and therefore the quadrennial Christian Conferencing gatherings – General Conference and Jurisdictional Conference - have met to do business and make decisions to determine programs and the direction of ministry of the church.
During these meetings, the bodies also elected leaders to serve on various boards and agencies over the next four years. There are several North Alabama Conference United Methodists who have been elected for leadership at the General Church and the Southeastern Jurisdictional level.
In May, during the 2012 General Conference meeting,
Zac Riddle was elected to the General Council on Finance and Administration.
Gloria Holt was elected to serve another term on the Commission on General Conference.
In July during the 2012 Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference meeting
Scott Selman was elected to the General Board of Pension & Health Benefits.
Rev. Mark Parris was elected to the General Board of Church & Society.
Steve Lyles was elected to the Southeastern Jurisdiction Committee on Coordination and Accountability.
Charlie Carlton was elected to Southeastern Jurisdiction Council on Finance and Administration.
Rev. Dedric Cowser was elected to the Committee on Program and Arrangements for the 2016 Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference.
Rev. Julie Holly and Dr. Thomas Muhomba were elected to the Southeastern Jurisdiction Committee on Investigation.
Rev. Michael Densmore was elected to the Southeastern Jurisdiction Committee on Appeals and Rev. Sherri Ferguson was elected as an alternate to this committee.
Rev. Mark Parris and Gloria Holt will also serve on the Southeastern Jurisdiction Committee on Episcopacy. At their first meeting, Gloria Holt was elected as Chairperson of the Committee for 2012-2016.
Through an additional election processes to complete the General Church Committees
Sandra Gerhardt was re-elected to General Board of Discipleship’s Committee on Older Adult Ministries.
Deb Wade has been elected chairperson of the United Methodist Committee on Disability Ministries. This is a General Church committee within the General Board of Global MInistries' UMCOR Health ministry.
