Bluff Park Promise Home dedication ceremony to be June 9

5/25/2013

Bluff Park UMC in Hoover will celebrate the dedication of the Bluff Park Promise Home on Sunday, June 9, at 4 p.m.

The Bluff Park UMC congregation built and furnished this six bedroom home on its campus to be used as a residential group home to house six adults living with autism in a residential group home environment. Glenwood, Autism & Behavioral Health Center, will be managing the group home.

“The church wanted to provide this sort of ministry,” said Bluff Park UMC’s retiring senior minister Reid Crotty, “but what we really needed was the right group to operate the home.”

Glenwood will operate the 4,000 square-foot, 6 bedroom, 6 bathroom group home with a 24-hour on-site manager. “This is a great opportunity for us,” said Lee Yount, President and CEO of Glenwood. “This home is very well constructed and planned perfectly for residents with autism or other disabilities. Plus, it has a definite welcome feeling from the church.”

Bluff Park United Methodist Church hopes that their relationship with Glenwood will be a model program for other churches in other areas.

Glenwood was established in 1974 with the mission to provide behavioral health care and educational services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and severe emotional disturbances.
