Cheaha District to host Worship and Practicing Spiritual Disciplines Workshop on Feb. 9, 2014

The Cheaha District invites you to join us in a time of inspiring worship led by gifted speaker and presenter Mary Lou Redding and musician Rev. Steve West   on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4 – 6 p.m. in The Beacon at Pell City United Methodist Church.  Mary Lou Redding will also present a free workshop entitled “Enriching Your Practice of Spiritual Disciplines” on Monday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon in the Pell City U.M.C. Fellowship Hall.  Continuing education credit (.3 CEU) will be awarded to participants.

Mary Lou Redding is a gifted workshop leader, writer, and spiritual leader. She retired as Editorial Director of The Upper Room daily devotional guide in May 2012. Redding is the author of numerous magazine articles and books, including Prayers for Life's Ordinary and Extraordinary Moments, The Power of A Focused Heart, and Understanding Spiritual Gifts. She is a former president of the Associated Church Press. Mary Lou teaches at numerous writers’ workshops in the United States and abroad, speaks at events, and leads retreats.  Her books will be available for purchase from Cokesbury on Sunday.

Rev. Steve West serves as senior pastor of St. Mark U.M.C. in Birmingham.  A talented vocalist, pianist, and trombonist, he has led music and worship in numerous settings from conference youth camps to local church music directing. He frequently leads worship at the piano for annual conferences, Academies for Spiritual Formation, and retreats. Steve is very interested in spiritual formation studies and has served on the leadership team of a number of Academies for Spiritual Formation. He was the producer, arranger, and primary musician for the recent Songs for Morning Prayer -, a CD project for the Academy for Spiritual Formation - and is composer of hymns and music on the GBOD worship website.
