Last year, when Bishop Wallace-Padgett requested prayer to be a focused, planned and integral part of Annual Conference, a team was assembled and a new era begun. Of course prayers have always gone up for Annual Conference, but this group was tasked with assuring that for every minute of activity, prayer was being offered. As one who spent most of these minutes in the chapel…wow!

In Matthew 18:19-20 Jesus says, “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Beginning May 31, 2014, you have an opportunity to say yes to this Scripture. A team is being assembled to again bathe our North Alabama Annual Conference in prayer. Prayer Team activity will kick-off on May 31 at 8:30 a.m. when we will walk the campus of Birmingham-Southern College, praying for events that will take place at each venue. And beginning with the opening of the meetings on June 1, individuals and groups are invited to join us in the Yeilding Chapel to pray. Throughout the campus, buckets will be accumulating prayer requests to be brought to the chapel for specific prayer. To assure that all times are covered, we created a place for online sign-up. "The commitment level and creativity of our Annual Conference prayer team amazes me," said Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett. "Many thanks to the team for their ministry among us."
Maybe you just need some quiet time - come join us. Or if you are seeking hands-on prayer, it would honor us to be able to pray for you.
In his article Why Do We Pray?, Stanley Gale, senior minister of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in West Chester, Pa., writes these words: "For prayer, believers assembling for a common cause enjoy the assurance that they are not on their own, but that their Lord is with them for the building of His church. He promises to guide and provide in response to their prayers. In His wisdom and design, the always-present Jesus is not just with the individual believer, but also emphatically among those assembled to seek Him.”
Will you join us in Yielding Chapel during Annual Conference? We need you. We might laugh, we might cry, we might sing. We will pray, and I guarantee you, you will all be blessed!
